About Multiplayer
Westwood Studios is well-renouned for having great multiplayer capabilities
as well as the usual single-player scenarios. Already, Westwood's
previous hit C&C game, C&C: Red Alert has proven that as well
as being an excellent single player game, it is just as enjoyable
as a multiplayer game. Being one of the most played multiplayer games
of all-time.
C&C 2: Tiberian Sun will be available
to play through Westwood Online. Westwood Studios' very own chatting
and multiplayer gaming program incorporated into C&C 2: Tiberian
Sun.
Multiplayer in C&C 2: Tiberian Sun
will also incorporate features such as team-play (clans) and skirmish
situations. This will be greatly benefitted by new ranking systems and
statstics of each clan or squad being available over Westwood Online.
The new statistcis system present will show information on every clan
that is registered over Westwood Online.
Erik Yeo, former Lead Designer of C&C
2: Tiberian Sun from Westwood Studios has also told us this about the
multiplayer client of C&C 2: Tiberian Sun in comparison to that
of previous C&C series games such as C&C: Red Alert.
"It's a lot more accessible and everything is handled through one
executable. Also, the game types, people in them, etc. are labled better
so you will have an easy time finding a game type you want."
A concern that has been raised in the past by C&C multiplayer games,
as well as all multiplayer games in general is the fact that a lot of
the time a match can be purely decided when players choose a map that
is more suited to one player because of the knowledge of that map that
one player may have. For example, one player may have memorized a map
and therefore knows exactly where they can find tiberium and exactly
where to deploy troops to for the best possible attack/defence, etc.
In C&C 2: Tiberian Sun however, this problem has been overcome by
the new Westwood Studios produced Random Map Generator (RMG). This allows
both players to agree on a number of variables (further information
below) and then watch as a randomly generated map is created on the
basis of the variables that were chosen. The interface is extremely
user-friendly and the variables are changed by simply typing a number,
pressing a button or setting a slider.
This
allows for the true skills of a player to show, as new strategies are
neccesary to overcome new challenges that the map may hold.
The variables of the RMG are some-what
as follows:
Time of Day
Amount of Tiberium
Amount of Water
Amount of Vegetation
All of the original variables from earlier C&C titles are back in
C&C 2: Tiberian Sun. They include:
Name:
Side: GDI/NOD
Color:
Bases: On/Off
Crates: On/Off
Fog of War: On/Off
Bridges: Destroyable/Non-destroyable

The RMG is a refreshing and helpful feature,
but is optional and does not have to be used by the players. As can
be seen, in the above screenshot the mouse cursor is ontop of the "Create
Random Map" button. Clicking this would access the RMG. The RMG
also allows you to preview the created map with a small image.
C&C 2: Tiberian Sun, with its new
multiplayer features is sure to induce new levels of exciting gameplay.
MULTIPLAYER STATISTICS:
IPX/TCP: 2-6 players (A faster Internet connection is required for higher
player numbers)
Null-modem and Modem: 2 players (33.6 kbps or faster highly recommended)
In all, C&C 2: Tiberian Sun is set
to take multiplayer gaming to new heights of gaming glory and perfection
to create the best possible entertainment over any multiplayer situation.
